This resource introduces CASCADE's Evidence Synthesis, which presents 75 case studies of successful behaviour-change interventions in conservation, illustrated by examples such as reducing demand for saiga horn in Singapore's traditional medicine markets and discouraging the pet trade of Lora parrots in the Netherlands. The synthesis demonstrates how targeted behaviour change approaches are being applied to address key targets within the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF).
The resource argues that while human behaviour is a direct driver of biodiversity loss, understanding how to influence it has often been overlooked in conservation practice. It emphasises that achieving the KMGBF's 2030 goals requires conservation strategies to move beyond traditional approaches by securing political commitment and policy support, alongside behaviour change interventions spanning individual choices through to large-scale policy change.
Central to this is a whole-society approach, engaging individuals, communities, businesses, and policymakers, with particular emphasis on the active involvement of Indigenous Peoples and local communities.
