This guidance note supports governments, project implementers, and wildlife management practitioners in developing effective behaviour change messaging for conservation interventions, including those that are addressing illegal or unsustainable wildlife trade, mitigating human-wildlife conflict, and promoting sustainable nature-based tourism.
It introduces five core messaging principles, spanning approaches such as avoiding negative framing, leveraging social norms, and using positive imagery to encourage desired behaviours. Each principle is grounded in practical examples and case studies drawn from real-world conservation contexts, helping practitioners understand how to apply the concepts to their own messaging and communications work.
